CHP: Redding Man Killed After Crashing Into Creek Along Highway 299

A Redding man was killed after a pickup truck left Highway 299 east of Redding and crashed down a hillside, landing in Little Cow Creek. The CHP was called just before Noon Thursday to an area near Ingot just east of Sugar Pine Camp Road on reports that a vehicle had crashed into the creek. 911 callers reported that a red Dodge Ram was being driven erratically at between 60 and 65 miles an hour before the unidentified 25-year-old driver allowed the truck to leave the roadway and tumble about 50 feet down the bank until it landed on its side in the creek. It’s not known if the man had been wearing his seatbelt, or if drugs or alcohol were a factor. The highway was under one-way traffic control for much of the afternoon, and had to be shut down completely for recovery of the truck at 3:25PM.
