Crews Gain Ground On Rock Fire, 600 Acre Fires Erupts Near Chico

The Rock Fire west of Old Shasta is holding at 108 acres, and it’s now 85% contained. The fire started around 4 O’clock Tuesday afternoon near Benson Drive and Rock Creek Road in an area devastated in the 2018 Carr Fire. No structures were ever threatened by the Rock Fire and no evacuations were ordered. The cause is under investigation.

A fire south of Red Bluff has grown slightly to 165 acres, and is 50% contained. The Dairy Fire started near East Canal Road and Tyler Road, then spread into the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge. It’s being managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with the firefighting being done by Cal-Fire and U.S. Forest Service crews. No structures are threatened. The fire may have been caused by an escaped debris burn on private property.

A fire burning in Chico’s Upper Bidwell Park is causing a lot of concern. As of Friday morning the Park Fire is 600 acres with 25% containment.
