A fire burning in the Happy Valley area was started by a lawn mower, according to Cal-Fire. The Pine Fire started around 1:45PM Wednesday afternoon near Pine Meadow Place and Cloverdale Road. An evacuation order was issued for residences on Cloverdale Road west to Clover Lane, but those evacuations have been lifted. Forward progress on the fire was stopped just after 3:30PM Wednesday after it burned 50 acres. 8 structures have been destroyed. Thursday morning the Pine Fire is 75% contained.
The Cow Fire east of Millville is now 75% contained, still at 761 acres. The fire was sparked Sunday afternoon by hot pieces of a disintegrating catalytic convertor spewing from the tailpipe of a car, according to Cal-Fire investigators. A witness saw the poorly running vehicle pass by just before the fire started, and the vehicle was found in Palo Cedro early Monday morning. The Cow Fire is off South Cow Creek Road and Highway 44. 18 homes were initially evacuated and two structures were destroyed. One firefighter has been injured.
Cal-Fire crews in Tehama County have stopped a fire in South Cottonwood. The Riverview Fire started Wednesday night in the gated community of Lake California. It’s been contained at a little less than 2 acres.
