Man Released Early From Prison Sentenced For Police Chase In Tehama County

A man who led Red Bluff Police on a chase last year, during which a man died, has been sentenced. Last August 8th, officers tried to make a traffic stop on Walnut Street but the driver, 41-year-old Brian Son, led them on a pursuit. At one point the passenger, 38-year-old David Alan Lee Jr. of Red Bluff, tried to jump from the moving vehicle and was run over by the rear wheel. Lee’s injuries were fatal. The chase ended on Paskenta Road where Son fled on foot into a detached garage where he had been living. Officers found several stolen guns inside the garage, as well as Jeremy Swain and Pedro Avila, who were both arrested for obstruction. Son had only been out of prison for three weeks. He had been set for release on December 24th of last year but was instead released July 14th because of the Coronavirus scare. For felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and fleeing police causing death, Son has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
