Mt. Shasta Innkeeper Arrested, Charged With Sexual Assault

An innkeeper in Mount Shasta City has again been arrested for sexual assault and Mount Shasta Police are hoping he can be held this time. 73-year-old David Roy Knowles Sr. runs the Mount Inn Retreat and Spa on Birch Street. A woman reported a sexual assault on May 16th and Knowles was arrested two days later. The Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office got the case, but then returned it to Mount Shasta Police, making it necessary to release Knowles from custody. Officers then returned to the Mount Inn with a search warrant and seized a computer, business records, a cell phone and other evidence. More alleged witnesses and victims brought accusations against Knowles. On Wednesday police arrested Knowles on a warrant issued by the court alleging 8 felony counts, including sexual battery by fraud. Knowles is in jail on $100,000 bail. Police are asking anyone who may have been victimized while staying at the Mount Inn Resort and Spa to contact them at 926-7540, with assurances that they will be protected and their anonymity will be maintained if they wish.
