10AM Friday: Salt Fire Grows To Over 5000 Acres, Now 5% Contained

More evacuations have been ordered for the Salt Fire burning near Lakehead. The Salt Fire has burned more than 5,043 acres with 5% containment. An unknown number of structures have been lost. Activity picked up with increased temperatures Thursday afternoon. Forest Service crews are trying to keep the fire north of Gilman Road, east of the Sacramento River Arm of Lake Shasta, and west of the McCloud Arm. The fire started Wednesday afternoon. Interstate 5 is open, but with lane closures through the fire zone. Evacuations remain in effect for Zola Drive, Cordes Court, Solus Campground Road, Toms Head, Antlers View, Old Mill Road and the Lakehead area east of I-5 from Antlers Road to Riverview Drive. Evacuations have now been ordered for Fenders Ferry Road between I-5 and Gilman Road. An evacuation warning has been issued for Delta School Road and Delta Road. Fenders Ferry Road is closed at Dog Creek Road. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating evacuations. A lot of information is available by calling 2-1-1.
