Authorities Urge Travelers To Be Cautious Over 4th Of July Weekend

Travelers over the long holiday weekend are urged to use extreme caution and practice patience and respect for their fellow drivers, particularly while traveling through the fire zones. Interstate Five will continue to be subject to slow moving vehicles, delays and intermittent closures in the coming days. Cal-Trans has closed some lanes both northbound and southbound for the safety of firefighters and equipment through the Salt Fire zone. Travelers should make sure to have full gas tanks and bring along plenty of drinking water and snacks in case they get stuck in traffic. The CHP will actively enforce DUI, aggressive driving and road rage. Excessive speed has been a major issue for the past year. Citations statewide for driving over 100 miles an hour went from 1,331 in may of 2019 to 3,480 in May of last year. In April of this year they were still way above average, with 2,201.
