A fire in the West Valley area of Cottonwood forced some evacuations Monday, but they were soon lifted. It started as a structure fire at around 2 O’clock off of Creekside Drive near West Ho Trail south of Gas Point Road. A code red was issued for residents within a half mile, and evacuations were ordered. Crews reported forward progress had been stopped just before 3 O’clock. The fire burned a total of around 24 acres. Several buildings were destroyed, including at least one and possibly two homes. One person was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.
