With conditions in the Klamath River just about as bad as they’ve ever been, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife have relocated one of the river’s most valuable resources. 1.1 Million juvenile Fall-Run Salmon have been trucked from the Iron Gate Hatchery to a satellite facility and to the Trinity River Hatchery, where they will remain until Klamath conditions improve and they can go home. It’s the first time since 1962 that the Iron Gate Hatchery has not released Salmon into the Klamath. Fish habitat is expected to greatly improve when four dams are removed from the river, a long awaited action that’s now expected by 2024.
