RPD: Belligerent Man Arrested After Shots Are Fired

Redding Police have taken a man into custody on Shady Lane, located in the Mistletoe Neighborhood in East Redding. Just after 5 O’clock Thursday morning multiple shots were fired inside a house as 43-year-old James Stillman reported he was under siege by several armed men trying to force their way into the house. He told a 9-1-1 dispatcher that he had several assault rifles he was using to defend the home. He also said a 13-year-old child was there with him. Arriving officers heard numerous shots, and the armored police vehicle was used to approach the scene. Officers then saw Stillman in front of a neighbor’s house trying to contact the occupants. Police say he was acting belligerent and erratically and was making nonsensical statements. He refused to follow officers’ orders at first but after a brief standoff he complied and was taken into custody. A loaded 38 caliber revolver was apparently found behind a flower pot on the neighbor’s front steps. Stillman was booked into jail for negligent discharge, obstructing police and being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
