Appointing Replacement For Sheriff Magrini On Supervisors Agenda

On Tuesday the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will discuss appointing a new Sheriff. Tom Bosenko retired in December of 2019, and the board appointed Undersheriff Eric Magrini to complete the term. Magrini has accepted the newly-created position of Assistant County Executive Officer and has vacated the Sheriff position. The board cannot legally call a special election, nor can they appoint an acting or Interim Sheriff. Currently Undersheriff Jason Barnhart is responsible for the Sheriff’s duties. The board can either appoint someone or launch a recruitment process for a new hire. They also might pass a salary resolution that boosts the Sheriff’s annual pay to $195,000.
