Jury Trial Set For RPD Officer Accused Of Harassing His Fiancee’s Ex

A Redding Police detective will stand trial for allegedly manipulating law enforcement systems to harass his fiancee’s ex, according to a story that broke in a News Cafe. Using a state criminal database with restricted access, Joshua Siipola apparently learned that Michael Peters, who’s the father of his fiancee’s son, had prior DUI convictions that restricted his driving privileges. Knowing the time and place that Peters would be picking up his son from the fiancee, he then arranged for a fellow officer to pull over Peters’ brand new pickup truck and have it impounded, according to the allegations. As it turned out, Peters was not in violation and was driving legally so he was able to recover his pickup without paying fines. He then put the pieces together and filed a complaint. The officer who did the traffic stop was unaware of the personal connection between the two men, and was acting on what he thought was a legitimate tip from Siipola. An investigation of the incident was done by Anderson Police, at the request of RPD Chief Bill Schueller. A jury trial is set for August 10th, with Siipola facing six misdemeanor counts.
