RPD: Business Owner Shoots Suspect After Pickup Smashes Into South Redding Donut Shop

Redding Police are searching for two suspects, one of which is suffering from a gunshot wound, after a break-in in South Redding Friday morning. Officers were called by the owner of Lucky Donuts in the Westwood Village Shopping Center at 2:53AM. 59-year-old Robert Keo of Anderson reported that he had shot a man after the suspect entered his shop through a backdoor that had been smashed in with a truck. Keo said that he was inside the donut shop preparing donuts when a truck rammed into a back door and tore it off the hinges. A man than reportedly entered the business and Keo armed himself with a handgun. Fearing for his life, Keo reportedly told the suspect that he would shoot him if he didn’t leave the store. Police say Keo fired one shot at the suspect which struck the man. The unidentified suspect than fled the store, and got back into the truck which than drove off with a 2nd suspect behind the wheel. As officers were investigating the scene, a vehicle fire was reported about 1/2 mile away from the store on Clear Creek Road. Redding Fire Department extinguished the fire and reported that a maroon Ford F-250 was destroyed in the fire. Keo identified the pickup as the same one that crashed into his store. The pickup was reportedly stolen the prior night from Alternative Auto on Wall Street in Redding. Police say the suspects intentionally set the pickup on fire in an effort to destroy evidence. Keo said the suspect he shot was a white man in his 20’s to 30’s, but no other description was given. No suspects were located. Police say the gunshot victim is likely suffering serious injuries and will need medical attention. Anyone with information is urged to contact Redding Police.
