The monstrous Dixie Fire is not slowing down, having burned more that 197,400 acres, with just 22% containment. Vast areas are under evacuations orders from the Plumas, Butte and Tehama County Sheriff’s Offices. The fire started July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure, and it continues to spread with spot fires starting up to a mile outside the perimeter. The Dixie Fire has merged with the Fly Fire and flames have jumped Highway 70 and Highway 89 in the Greenville Wye. The Fly Fire has burned over 4,800 acres and is 5% contained. The Indian Falls area has apparently suffered a lot of structure loss. Structure protection has been the priority, but the 22 structures confirmed destroyed are believed to be a fraction of the total. Conditions will have to be safer before comprehensive damage assessment can be completed. Nearly 11,000 structures are threatened. Massive Pyrocumulous clouds compound the unpredictability of the inferno’s behavior. Almost 5,500 personnel are fighting the Dixie Fire.
