Dixie Fire Grows To More Than 200,000 Acres

Although very little growth was seen on the Dixie Fire Monday, it grew by 10,000 acres overnight, now more than 208,200 acres. It’s 23% contained. At least 31 structures have been destroyed, as well as 16 other minor structures. Nearly 11,000 remain threatened. Crews used Monday’s cooler temperatures to gain some ground as the fire moves into higher elevations with slightly easier terrain. A lot of contingency dozer lines and hand lines were dug by hard working crews Monday. Vast areas are under evacuation orders and warnings in Plumas, Butte, Tehama and now Lassen County. The Dixie Fire started July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure, and it merged over the weekend with the Fly Fire. Massive Pyrocumulous columns have loomed above the inferno. About 5,100 personnel are fighting the Dixie Fire.
