Growth Slows On Dixie Fire, Total Size Now Over 220,000 Acres

The Dixie Fire, now over 221,500 acres, grew by only 2500 acres Wednesday and 1500 overnight, and apparently most of that was unburned dry and dead fuels between control lines and the main fire. Containment remains at 23%. The area will continue to be socked in with thick smoke in the valleys and canyons. At least 42 structures have been destroyed, as well as 22 other minor structures. Over 10,700 remain threatened. Vast areas are under evacuation orders and warnings in Plumas, Butte, Tehama and Lassen Counties. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure. Almost 6,000 personnel are fighting the Dixie Fire.
