Man Accused Of Stealing Vehicle With Dogs Inside Charged With 6 Felonies

A man from Chester accused of stealing a car with a couple of dogs inside from a Redding supermarket is being held on $233,000 bail. 29-year-old Nicholas Baragno was arraigned Wednesday on six felonies and two misdemeanors, including grand theft of the dogs. Monday afternoon, a woman shopping at Food Maxx left her 2 Pit Bulls in her air conditioned Nissan Maxima with the motor running. Baragno reportedly stole the car, and the dogs were still with him nearly an hour later when the car was spotted on Highway 44 and chased to Inwood Road. Police say Baragno turned up a private drive and when he tried to turn around he flipped the car onto its side. A stolen handgun was found on the floorboard. One of the dogs had a minor injury but they were otherwise fine.
