Dixie Fire Grows Over 14,000 Acres Overnight

The Dixie Fire gained about 5,000 acres Thursday and about 14,000 acres overnight, now over 240,600 acres, with 24% containment. A lot of unburned interior islands have been flaring up. Almost 6,000 personnel are fighting the Dixie Fire. They’ve made major progress near Butte Meadows on the west side and Bucks Lake on the east. Firing operations continue for protection of Quincy and other communities. At least 42 structures have been destroyed, as well as 22 other minor structures. About 10,700 remain threatened. Vast areas are under evacuation orders and warnings in Plumas, Butte, Tehama and Lassen Counties. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
