Growth Slows Dramatically On Dixie Fire, Crews Gain More Containment

The 248,820 acre Dixie Fire is 35% contained. Some evacuations have eased up. Flames continue to consume a lot of interior stands of unburned timber, including a large burn in Rattlesnake Gulch Sunday that sent up a large smoke plume. A lot of progress has been made around Philbrook and Butte Meadows. Crews have held the line near threatened Rush Creek homes and caught spot fires near Dark Ravine and Round Valley Reservoir. Near Caribou, direct line is very difficult and is being backed up by contingency line. Vast areas are still under evacuation orders. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
