A man drowned in Whiskeytown Lake on Saturday while swimming near the Carr Powerhouse, according to the Park Service. The Park Service said that rangers were able to rescue a woman who was swimming in the area near the powerhouse. Two dogs got caught in the turbulent water, but were able to get to shore safely. The area around the powerhouse is off limits to swimming and boating due to powerful undercurrents that are created by the large amounts of water flowing into the lake. The man’s identity has not been released.
