Getting to the coast from Redding has become a bit of a challenge. Highway 299 is closed from Big Bar to Hayden Flat after becoming burned over by the Monument Fire. Highway 36 is closed from a little west of Platina to the junction with Highway 3 due to the McFarlane Fire. one possible coastal route is Highway 299 to Highway 3 through Hayfork to 36, but that’s fraught with delays as well.
